Feathers

Happy Memorial Day everyone!  I know that mine will be filled with homemade Belgian waffles and shopping the Memorial Day sales.  Lately I've been noticing feathers everywhere, and thought I'd put together some of my favorite feathered pieces this season.

Juicy Couture feathers t-shirt pictured below is now 40% off at Net-a-Porter.

Get The Look: Summer Shoes

posted on: 5.28.2010

There are some killer shoes in stores right now, and I have some absolute favorites of the season for all different reasons.  The only problem is their price tags, so here are some great alternatives to the shoe you've been obsessing over.
Jimmy Choo $1095                                                                 Steve Madden $79.95
Christian Louboutin $845                                                 Steven by Steve Madden $109.95

Bloch Patent Ballerina Flats $150                                     Gianni Bini "Dina" Flat $69.99

Giuseppe Zanotti for Thakoon $750       Sigerson Morrison $395                     Sam Edelman $119.95

My apologies, but there is just no alternative for the Jimmy Choo Zap sandals.  This strappy black shoe comes fully-equipped to light up when you walk, and remind me of the light-up sneakers I wore when I was a kid.  The heels will have to remain on my wishlist along with their $2495 price tag.

Living in Hawaii, to stay away from the beach is to do the impossible.  Rather than dread bathing suit season, I've learned to embrace it by making every trip to the beach a fashionable one.  Take it from a seasoned expert, here are the perfect summer swim suit trends for a perfect island getaway.

Criss-Crossed

Lately I've been telling anyone who will listen about my new Danielle Nicole purse that I got at Saks last week.  It's perfect as a cross-body bag, the strap can be doubled as a purse, or as a cute evening clutch.  I paired it with a Myne dress, Urban Outfitters Fedora, Andrea & Joen heels and bamboo bangles.  Check out more cross-body bags at Bloomingdales, they're hands-free and perfect for summer!

Show Your Stripes

posted on: 5.25.2010

Horizontal, vertical, diagonal or otherwise, I'll take what I can get when it comes to stripes.  Lucky for me stripes are huge this season and are coming in the form of tops, skirts, dresses and shoes.  Try mixing stripes with other prints like florals, or keep it classic with a structured blazer.

Lingerie Look

Incorporating elements of lingerie like lace, satin and corsets into a day-to-day look can be a challenge.  Boudoir-inspired clothing can have a tendency to look a bit cheap, but there is nothing more endearing than when this look is executed just right.  Designers like Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang have been showcasing this trend on their runways, but there is no reason not to flaunt it on the sidewalk.

I find an immense amount of inspiration just from looking at fashion spreads whether they are new or old classics.  I came across this spread, featured in the June 2010 issue of Vogue UK, which showcases trends like ruffles, clogs and mixing prints.  So if you want to get wrapped up in Cuban culture without braving the Havana heat, this spread is one to check out.

Reunited

Aside from all-nighters and final exams, college has presented one problem for me that I have found no way of solving: choosing which items to bring with me to California and stuff into my way-too-small dorm room closet.  Though frustrating, the bright side of this dilemma is that when I return home to Hawaii for the Summer my wardrobe instantly doubles as I am reunited with all of my clothes that I was forced to leave behind.  This denim jacket is one of those items, which I've chosen to pair with a blush Urban Outfitters dress and pin, Andrea & Joen heels, Louis Vuitton bag and Forever 21 bird necklace.

Thanks to Liza for the awesome necklace.
Visit Forever 21 for this pendant and other similar jewelry.
Also on my jewelry radar? Spikes!
