Happy New Year

posted on: 12.31.2010

For New Year's Eve this year I took it back to basics. I think sometimes we get carried away with the latest trends and forget how chic a little black dress can be. I have a few LBD's which are staples in my closet, however for tonight I chose a Velvet dress paired with F21 earrings, studded bracelets and a pair of suede Christian Louboutin pumps for a pop of color. I know, I know, my last post featured a velvet dress as well, but after looking at the photos I decided it was just the thing I wanted to wear this New Year's Eve.  2010 has been wonderful, yet I am so excited to find out what 2011 has in store.  I'm celebrating New Year's at a family friend's house and doing fireworks until midnight!

How did you ring in the new year?

Velvet

I love that velvet dresses are in abundance this season. There's nothing like draped velvet and oversized round shades to make you feel glamorous. Going out to dinner with the family I wanted to put together a classic look so I paired my Juicy Couture dress with black Louboutin's, a coordinating Michael Kors cltch, a J. Crew rhinestone necklace and House of Harlow sunglasses.

Love At First Sight

People say that 'black friday' is the biggest shopping day of the year, however for me it has always been the day after Christmas when I find the best deals. I stumbled upon these Elizabeth and James leather booties while browsing the racks and it was love at first sight. I'm already envisioning them paired with full skirts and sundresses (I'm in Hawaii, after all). Today I went out to lunch and a nice drive with a friend so I wore them with an Ella Moss dress and threw on a denim jacket to make the look a bit more casual.

Did you find anything at the day after Christmas sales?

Christmas Day

Maybe it's the little kid in me but Christmas has always been my favorite holiday. Festive details like a beautiful wreath, a bowl of cards and my collection of snowmen never fail to put me in the Christmas spirit. I spent Christmas day having brunch at home with my family, opening presents and going out to a nice dinner on the beach. During the day I wore a Parker top with Alice + Olivia shorts, and for dinner I chose a strapless Rebecca Taylor dress with sequin accents and paired it with black patent pumps and crystal-studded bracelets.

Endless Summer

Each time I come home to Hawaii I can count on a few things which never fail me: warm weather and blue skies. Today was no exception. I took the opportunity to take out a sundress from the back of my closet and throw it on to grab coffee by the pier. As someone who belts nearly everything, I think a skinny belt adds to this dress taking it from baggy to form fitting.

Morning After

I got these Beau Coops heels at Liberty of London and was so excited to wear them once I got home.  I decided they went perfectly with my Alice + Olivia dress for my sister's 'morning after' wedding brunch. Today is the first day the rain has let up for the past few days and I'm using it as an excuse to spend a lazy day at the beach and get some color before the Christmas festivities.

Rehearsal

I apologize for my sporadic posts lately, I have just finished up finals week and took an eighteen hour flight home from London to Hawaii just in time to serve as maid of honor for my sister's wedding. Needless to say it has been a crazy past few days. However, in light of the wedding I have insane amounts of pictures to share with you all. Here are some photos from the rehearsal dinner held at Roy's Waikiki...

Now off to do some last minute Christmas shopping...do you have all of your presents ready to go?

Five Things

I've been tagged by Cat In Dreamland so with the holidays coming up I thought it would be a good time to list my five favorite things right this moment.

Color Blocked

I'm loving the geometric shapes and color-blocking happening in the BCBG Pre-Fall 2011 collection. Although we're still in the heart of winter, I feel like it's such a refreshing break to see their use of bright colors and chiffon all styled to perfection.
